Like so much in popular culture the phrase "treatment resistant" is a form of blaming the victim. Rather than calling the depression "as yet ineffectively treated," we emphasize that there is something wrong with the patient. Treatment resistant depression is much like lost objects. Treatment resistant depressions respond to the last treatment administered, and lost objects are found in the the last place looked. Of course there are small number of depressions that never respond to treatment just as there are some objects we lose around our houses that never turn up. -- > > || Ivan Goldberg, MD ~ ||
