Windhorse Associates is the alternative treatment community developed by Ed Podvoll, author of the book The Seduction of Madness. It is a "therapeutic household" approach to treatment. The community consists of the individual households of the clients, plus all of the Windhorse staff, plus local families and consumer/survivors, plus (we hope) the community at large. The individual client household can be either their usual residence or a household-with-roommate set up (and freely chosen) with the help of Windhorse. Windhorse started through Naropa Institute in Boulder and is now located in Northampton, MA. It is based on Buddhist and other spiritual principles, but is run as a non-sectarian program. It is based on a coalition of professionals, families, and consumers. In addition to its treatment program, Windhorse offers educational programs and classes. For brochures, copies of the book, and more info on their programs, contact Jeff Fortuna or Eric Chapin at: Windhorse Associates P.O.
