Back in the mid '70s, in Missouri, the term was "greensheeted".  This is
because the petition for committment was a green form.

At San Bernardino County (California) Medical Center, you go to "Ward B."
At Riverside County (California) Medical Center, you go to "Psycho Ward."
(Not much imagination in Riverside County.)  At Patton State Hospital
(S.B., Cal.) you just "go to Patton" and are never seen or heard from again.
 
More than a few people who used the "insanity defense" for violent crimes
have wished they just pled guilty, instead of going to Patton.
