Approximately 75 individuals participated in the preparation of these items. 1. Human Rights Movement a. Voting / Political Advocacy Needs to be included b. Protest/Rally/ Political Action c. Focus on resolutions / national Caucasus i. Time to define ourselves ii. Involve New People iii. Grassroots as opposed to hierarchy iv. Convention model platform d. Remember our roots 2. Varying need of attendees a. First Timers b. Specific Issues c. Networking d. Special Populations e. C/S/X family issues i. Labeling of Children ii. Custody Issues iii. Parent/family issues 3. Planning Process a. Needs to involve newcomers b. Develop policy/procedures/guidelines for future alternatives (ie. speakers, no involuntary commitment, etc.) c. Needs to represent new people to the movement rather than the few d. Only consumers/survivors/ex-patients should speak on plenaries e. Coding of Workshops as to: i. Audience participation ii. Presentation Style f. Cost g. Consumer Friendliness - Experienced C/S/X leaders should be approachable and helpful i. Possibly schedule round-table discussion ii. Schedule Social Get Together where people could meet them h. Participatory workshops rather than lectures i. Explanation of terminology and acronyms (prepare glossary and make it available) j. Inclusion of minority philosophies k. Identifying agenda needs for workshops then recruit workshops presenters on needs that are not addressed by proposals / submissions l. Pre-Conference / Post Conference on Meetings / Trainings / Organizational Development for local groups (concentrate conference on individuals and not groups) m. Site Selection i. Needs to be affordable ii. Go to where the people are iii. Could use as a method of helping states to organize (T.A.) n. Back-up presenters to eliminate workshop cancellations o. Only C/S/X speak at keynotes p.
